Us humans prefer to surround ourselves with like minded opinions so it can be jarring when someone doesn't play by those rules. Good luck!Eugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17722877695054410613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-4176998188229336542012-05-28T16:39:58.217+02:002012-05-28T16:39:58.217+02:00I'm a new reader on this site, and you seem to...I'm a new reader on this site, and you seem to sum up so much of what I want to tell people. Thank you for your insightful and well written articles.
I ask a lot of questions, I always want to dig deeper and find out the true nature of things, but so many people think I'm dismissing their opinions or ideas when I question them; some people can become hostile they are so insulted! Does anyone else here find that to be the case? It is very disappointing that so few people try to understand the approach that I really only want to understand, not to tear them apart. =/

DiarmuidDiarmuidnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-48625409423203233552009-01-29T02:01:00.000+02:002009-01-29T02:01:00.000+02:00science is the art of asking questions... Makes even the most cockamamie idea completely bulletproof because "God showed me".

Even though I focused on just the spiritual here I think this should be applied everywhere - we should question our pastors, our politicians, our reporters, the internet. I find that oftentimes I can be savvy in asking questions in one area but completely naive in another!

I'm not a big fan of the Iranian president, but after seeing this story behind the story regarding his statements about Israel I can't help but wonder how much important information is left behind in the editing room:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onNzrNEFs1EEugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17722877695054410613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-32200249771095095692008-08-21T03:40:00.000+02:002008-08-21T03:40:00.000+02:00Years ago in high school I read most everything Ku...Years ago in high school I read most everything Kurt Vonnegut wrote . . . I don't remember that many details, but I do remember realizing that his Science Fiction made left me pondering life far more than many other writers.

Questioning is very healthy (as you've pointed out). I think one reason many people fall short in this area (including me) is because we are so dead set on sharing our own opinion on any given matter.TimmyMachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14446318506480216665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-68043913223723614112008-08-21T00:45:00.000+02:002008-08-21T00:45:00.000+02:00Most Christians ask plenty of questions when they ...Most Christians ask plenty of questions when they read the Bible. Fundamentalists, however, don't. They have convinced themselves they have discernment, which when applied to biblical interpretation is a word that drives me crazy. This supremely arrogant attitude is what drives them to lash out at non-Christians and what they consider "cafeteria Christians" for the mortal sin of professing what a particular passage means to them. After all, literal interpretation of the Bible is a cornerstone of fundamentalism. However, in discussion forums, they always supply much interpretation of their own, interpretation that could not have possibly come from scripture! When normal people interpret the Bible, they arrive at that deeply personal interpretation after asking a lot of questions of both themselves and God. However, when a fundie does the exact same thing, it's not "interpretation", it's "discernment". This implies a special wisdom that only uber-Christians can achieve, and allows for no questioning. You can bet I go on the attack whenever I see the snotty "d-word" in a fundie's post!

Nice to have you back my friend.GumbyTheCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02696861259954817600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-57983442416465468232008-08-20T20:22:00.000+02:002008-08-20T20:22:00.000+02:00I actually considered editing my comment after I w...I actually considered editing my comment after I wrote those words.

For me, that is the biggest question of all.RandomSuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00266089487669591255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-72310811362076967882008-08-20T17:04:00.000+02:002008-08-20T17:04:00.000+02:00What does true freedom in every way look like? What does true freedom in every way look like?Eugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17722877695054410613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2064729025510181487.post-3281069525892060822008-08-20T16:58:00.000+02:002008-08-20T16:58:00.000+02:00Beautifully written.
