Couple that with the fact that Christianity is only one of thousands of "one true religions" in this world and that is basically why I eventually became an atheist.

Christianity is based on relentless indoctrination, forced ignorance and fear. If people spent even a small amount of time thinking about the vastness and complexity of the universe, and the staggering immensity of any divine being who could create such a universe, they would see right through the bullshit of preachers and realize that such a being could not possibly so petty and tribal. And they would see what a sub-atomically insignificant place mankind holds in the overall scheme of things.

Religion 10,000 years from now, if it exists at all, will undoubtedly be much different from the religion of today. It seems to me we are still way too mired in this primitive savage tribal-deity godview. If you think about it, religion today has not progressed all that far from its beginnings. We're still in the days of being frightened by threats of calamity if we do things that might anger the vengeful invisible magic being in the sky. Sure we, dress up these atavistic concepts in Jesus or Ganesh costumes these days, but the overall themes are the same. And the priests and preachers of today are scarcely different from the shamans of 5,000 years ago.

It's far past time we grew up!GumbyTheCathttp://www.cosmicsnark.comnoreply@blogger.com
